Do you have a Wellness Incentive Program at your Company?
If not it's a great way to help control your costs for healthcare. If you do, it does not have to cost thousand's of dollars to implement and manage.
Why Implement a Wellness Incentive Program?
Your company should "partner" with your employees for the cost of your healthcare coverage. Gone are the days of choosing a plan, sending out to your employees and worry about it next year. The employees should understand that their untiliztion and lifestyle choices effect the premium everyone pays for health insurance. You offer a financial incentive- usually a lower premium, to those employees that particpate and earn the required benchmarks.
What is required of the Employees?
The purpose of the Incentive Program is to get the employees to think about how they utilize the coverage and the lifesyle choices they make. The math is very simple:
Companies that have a healthier workforce and lower untilization, in most situations will pay a lower premium.
Companies with an unhealthy workforce have higher utilization, resulting in more claims and higher dollar claims, which results in higher costs.
You do not have to pay thousands of dollars to have and administer a Wellness Incentive Program
A Wellness Incentive Program should be easy to understand for the employees, easy to adminster and low cost. If not, then the particpation will be too low to succeed, the costs will be too high and the program will fail.
My custom designed Wellness Programs meet all the criteria above. My program is simple to understand, low to no cost (although at least a minimal budget to show the ee's a corportate comittment is recommended), and very simple to administer- because I will handle the administration:
- program design
- employee communications
- participation tracking
- privacy and confidentiality
The cost of healthcare-premiums and out of pocket expenses is on the minds of everyone today. Unfortunately, it's not going away anytime soon. Your employees need the education and the tools to understand how to keep their costs under control, and also understand the tough spot you the Employer are in- the ever increasing cost. When there is a "partnership", and both sides understand they are in this together, better things can happen.
